Description:

1957 De Havilland DH82A Tiger Moth Conversion: Thruxton Jackaroo Prototype (Series 1) – Rare & Airworthy

For sale: Thruxton Jackaroo G-AOEX, the original Series 1 prototype from the modified DH82A Tiger Moth.

Developed at Thruxton Aerodrome, Hampshire, the Jackaroo was designed as a four-seat cabin biplane, using war surplus Tiger Moth airframes. Only two prototypes were built in 1956, with G-AOEX being the first, test-flown by Lt-Cdr Pat Shea-Simonds on March 2, 1957.

In total, only 19 aircraft were converted, including three for crop spraying. Today, just five remain airworthy, making G-AOEX an exceptionally rare example.

Key Details:
• Restored in December 2022, with very low flying hours since completion
• New LAA Permit to Fly issued – valid until January 9, 2026
• Just completed its annual inspection and LAA permit renewal
• Formerly owned and operated by the Wiltshire School of Flying, still in its classic WSF red and silver livery
• Always hangared since 1985

This is a fantastic opportunity to own a piece of aviation history with proven provenance and excellent condition.
